Brothers Establish Scholarship to Honor Father

Brothers Patrick, Tommy, and Jerry Crump have established an endowed memorial scholarship to honor their father, NSU alumnus Thomas Crump, Sr., who played football for Northwestern from 1948-1950.

His time at Northwestern was interrupted by a three year stint in the Air Force after which he returned to Northwestern and graduated with a Physical Education and Industrial Arts degree in 1956. Mr. Crump, who founded Crump Oil in 1962, was from Haynesville. He is survived by his wife Margaret.

His son Patrick, who works in San Angelo, Texas, along with his wife Jeana; son Tommy and his wife Lissa; and son Jerry established the $10,000 endowed scholarship which will be awarded along with 53 other endowed scholarships at the City Bank and Trust Academic Banquet in September 2010.

The Crump Scholarship is the fifth endowed scholarship commitment of the 2009-10 athletic year. All commitments count toward the $25 million "Excellence: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" Capital Campaign, which kicked off in June, 2009. Already, NSU has raised over $11 million toward that goal.

Northwestern State University's Endowed Athletic Scholarship Program includes the donations of generous benefactors totaling $10,000 or more ($100,000 for Fully Endowed Scholarships) which assist the department in underwriting the cost of scholarships for all Demon Student-Athletes.
